Architect Gary Stofft oversaw a full 2024 renovation of this ground-floor corner residence at L'Hermitage, a boutique eight-story building of just 15 units positioned across Ocean Boulevard from the Atlantic in Gulf Stream. The 2,500-square-foot layout includes two bedrooms, a library, and a private walled terrace accessed through impact-glass sliding doors.
Architecture & Design by Gary Stofft
Stofft reconfigured the unit into an open-concept plan with oak hardwood floors throughout and custom cabinetry by Distinctive Kitchens & Baths. The renovation introduced leaded-glass windows by glass artist Robert Schmidt and hand-painted ceiling murals by artist Craig McInnis, both of which function as permanent artistic installations within the residence. Impact windows and sliding doors were installed throughout.
Interior Rooms & Finishes
The living room, dining room, and library connect as a continuous space. The library includes a wet bar and wine refrigerator. The kitchen is fitted with custom cabinetry, quartzite countertops, and high-end stainless steel appliances. Built-in televisions are integrated into both the living room and primary bedroom walls.
The primary suite opens to a fitted walk-in closet and a marble bathroom centered on a fully tiled wet room. A whole-house remote-controlled audio system and a security system are included. The unit comes with one covered parking space and semi-private elevator access.
Outdoor Living & Building Amenities
The private walled terrace extends the living space outdoors, shielded from corridor traffic. The building's common areas include a heated pool, Jacuzzi, and an expansive patio deck. L'Hermitage has completed Florida's mandated milestone structural inspection, a detail worth confirming through the association given the 1985 construction date and current insurance market conditions.
Location & Access
Gulf Stream sits between Delray Beach and Boynton Beach along the A1A corridor, governed by its own municipality with a dedicated police force and strict zoning that limits commercial development. The building's position on the west side of North Ocean Boulevard means ocean access is across the road rather than direct beachfront, though Gulf Stream's low density and minimal traffic make that crossing unremarkable. Boca Raton is roughly ten minutes south; Palm Beach International Airport is approximately 25 minutes north via I-95. The Delray Beach Atlantic Avenue dining and retail district is a five-minute drive.
