The Building
The Biltmore is Palm Beach’s great survivor. Gustave Maurice Heckscher built it for roughly $7M and opened it on February 1, 1926 as the Alba Hotel. The 550 room Spanish Colonial Revival palace by architects Allen & De Young rose on the lakefront at Bradley Place. It became the Ambassador in 1929, the Biltmore in 1934, and served the war as Coast Guard Women’s Reserve quarters and a naval hospital.
Stanley Harte bought the hotel in 1977 and converted it, with the first residents arriving in October 1980. The town landmarked the building in 1991, fixing its silhouette on the lake for good. Today its 128 residences trade on that pedigree, and a January 2025 sale reached $14M.

The Alba opened in the last full season of the Land Boom and spent the golden decades as one of the resort's social anchors. Its registers carried Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Judy Garland and Babe Ruth. The war repurposed it, first for the Coast Guard Women's Reserve and then as a naval hospital.
That history is not decoration. The 1991 landmark designation protects the building's exterior, which means a Biltmore owner holds an apartment inside a piece of the town's permanent architecture.
Hotel bones make distinctive apartments: high ceilings, deep walls and floor plans that vary line by line rather than repeating on a stack. Renovated lakefront residences carry the top of the market, and the building's lawns run to the Intracoastal seawall.
Bradley Place puts owners two blocks from Royal Poinciana Plaza and a short walk from the town's north business district.

Yes, in the hotel tradition it was born to: staffed service, amenities and grounds running to the Intracoastal seawall. Line by line details vary, and we confirm the current service package in every transaction.
The 1991 designation protects the building’s exterior, so the silhouette and facades cannot be altered. Interior renovation proceeds normally with association and town approvals, and renovated residences carry the building’s premium.
The registers carried Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Judy Garland and Babe Ruth among the resort era’s names. The building also served the war as Coast Guard Women’s Reserve quarters and a naval hospital before returning to society life.
It trades character against newness. Buildings like The Bristol offer new construction systems and glass, while the Biltmore offers landmark architecture, hotel scale public rooms and plans no developer can reproduce. The two buyer pools overlap less than price alone suggests.
