The Shape of the Gallery Season
The gallery season and the social season share a calendar and a guest list. Both run from October through April, and our season guide maps the ballroom side of that winter. The art side moves on its own rhythm. It opens quietly in late October, when the Norton hangs its winter exhibitions and the first receptions appear on gallery calendars.
From November through February the openings come weekly. A reception on the island is rarely a crowd scene. Dealers here keep longer exhibition cycles than their Miami colleagues, and they build their programs around collectors who return every winter. The season peaks with the convention center fairs, then eases through March toward Easter. The arc below holds the dated anchors.

- A month-only entry, exact dates to be announced.

The 2026-27 calendar is still taking shape. The Norton's winter exhibitions and the major fair weeks are dated below, and the hosts still to announce are carried month-only. New Wave Art Wknd, which spent years in the week after Art Basel, has moved its next edition to spring 2027. Its season programming opens in November.
The Island Galleries, Pole to Pole
The island's gallery life runs between two poles. Worth Avenue is the historic one, where Mizner's arcades hold the dealers who have worked the island for decades. The Royal Poinciana Plaza, at the north end, is the newer one. The plaza drew a wave of New York galleries during the pandemic years, and the most established of them stayed.
Between the two poles the programs differ more than the addresses do. The avenue leans toward photography, modern masters and the traditional trades. The plaza leans blue-chip. The island's most serious contemporary program belongs to Gavlak, whose founder also started New Wave Art Wknd to bring emerging artists into a market known for its old masters. The cards below hold the rooms worth knowing first.

- A mainland institution or gallery cluster: the Norton, the Four Arts, downtown West Palm Beach.

The century-old New York institution keeps its first space outside Manhattan at the Royal Poinciana Plaza. Its winter programs bring museum-grade modern and post-war painting to the island, and its openings are the plaza's quiet headliners.

The county's deepest collections sit across the water. The Norton Museum of Art, reimagined by Norman Foster, anchors South Dixie Highway a short drive from the El Cid and SoSo neighborhoods. Its winter slate is already dated: a photography survey opens September 19, and two further exhibitions open together on October 31 and run into March.
On the island side, the Society of the Four Arts runs its season from November through Easter on ten acres along the Intracoastal. Its 2026-27 exhibition titles were not yet posted as of mid-September, and they join the calendar when the Four Arts publishes. Downtown West Palm Beach carries the newer energy, led by Kristin Hjellegjerde's first American space. Our galleries and institutions guide profiles the full roster, private art spaces included.
The Norton has already dated its winter. Visible Fictions, a survey of photography and artifice, opens September 19. Blazing Light, photographs by Mimi Plumb, and Gertrude Abercrombie: The Whole World Is a Mystery follow together on October 31 and run to March 14. The gala date is still to come.

fourarts.orgDecember and the Pull of Art Basel
One week in early December, the island's art world gets in the car. Art Basel Miami Beach runs December 2 through 6 this season, with preview days on the 2nd and 3rd. The fair exerts the same pull on Palm Beach that it does on every collecting city in the hemisphere. Dealers time announcements to it, and collectors plan arrivals around it. The drive south takes over an hour and nobody minds.
What matters for a Palm Beach winter is what the week does to the weeks around it. Basel sets the season's conversation, and the island's galleries answer it through December with their strongest hangs of the year. The holiday stretch that follows, from the tree lightings on the avenue to New Year's, is when the gallery windows earn their keep.
The Fair Weeks, January Through March
After New Year's the fairs come home. Art Palm Beach takes the convention center January 27 through 31. The Palm Beach Show follows February 11 through 16 with jewelry, art and antiques, overlapping the Fine Craft Show on the same floor. Kips Bay's tenth Palm Beach show house opens in February with dates to be announced. Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary closes the run in March, its 2027 dates also pending.
The fair weeks are the season's most social stretch, and the calendar around them fills with the February galas the season guide tracks. The table below holds every dated art event in one place, with the pending months marked.

Treat the fairs the way the dealers do: preview days are for deciding, public days are for looking. The serious inventory at any fair moves early, and the gallery back rooms on the island often hold stronger work than the booths. A standing relationship with one or two dealers is worth more than any fair badge.
Living With the Season
Living close changes how much of the season you use. From the island, every opening on the avenue or at the plaza is a walk or a five-minute drive. From El Cid or the Southend, the Norton is closer still. People who move here for the winter build their weeks around this circuit, and the houses they choose tend to sit inside it.
Our work sits at that intersection. Buyers weighing a Palm Beach winter address can start with our island buyer's briefing, which covers the practical side of arriving before the season. The art will take care of the rest.
Bottom Line
The gallery season is the social season's quieter twin, and plenty of residents prefer it. The institutions have published enough of the winter to plan around, and the fairs hold their familiar weeks. The people who get the most from the rooms walk in early and often. Watch for the dates still to be announced, because the calendar's last pieces land quickly once they start.
For a reader planning the winter: Put the dated anchors in your calendar now and leave the evenings between them open. The best of this season happens in a gallery you had not planned to enter.
This guide compiles the announced 2026-27 dates of the Palm Beach area's gallery, museum and art fair calendar. An event carries an exact date only where its host organization has published the 2026-27 date on its own site. Events whose hosts have not yet announced are carried month-only and marked to be announced. Dates were checked on September 13, 2026 and can change. Confirm with each host before planning.
Gallery and institution descriptions reuse the published record in our galleries and institutions guide and our season guide, and were re-checked against the organizations' own sites. This page covers cultural programming. Nothing here is investment advice, and we work both sides of the property market as transaction brokers.
